The Smart Weighbridges Project is an initiative by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MoTCIT) aimed at monitoring and regulating truck weights on Omani roads using advanced technology and artificial intelligence. The project seeks to reduce overloads that damage infrastructure, enhance road safety, and improve logistics efficiency.

Key Milestones:

• February 26, 2017: Initial plans to implement mobile weighbridges on major routes such as Bidiya–Sur, Al Batinah Expressway, and Adam–Thumrait.
• Late 2023: The “Smart Weighbridges” initiative was formally integrated into Oman’s land transport sector modernization plans.
• January–September 2024: Operational deployment of the smart weighbridges; around 2,800 trucks were weighed, with 1,522 violations recorded for exceeding permitted weight limits.
