Management of Land Transport Vehicle Parking Yards
Start Date: 10 May 2023
End Date: 01 January 2030
The Management of Land Transport Vehicle Parking Yards, under the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology in Oman, is the regulatory and supervisory body responsible for developing and operating designated “parking yards” for land transport vehicles. These yards are located outside residential and commercial areas—such as ports, industrial zones, and free zones—and provide temporary accommodation for trucks, heavy vehicles, and buses, along with maintenance and support services.
Key Roles and Activities
Licensing and Yard Operations
In May 2023, the ministry issued the first official license for a parking yard in Liwa (North Al Batinah Governorate) to Al Qilada International Trading & Contracting. The facility spans about 30,000 m² and accommodates more than 250 vehicles, including trucks, heavy transport vehicles, and buses.
Investment and Tendering
The ministry launched a public bidding process to develop and manage parking yards across various governorates. Investors and landowners were invited to utilize ministry-owned or private lands to establish these yards under specific operating requirements.
Regulatory Objectives
The initiative aims to eliminate the problem of heavy transport vehicles parking in residential neighborhoods, regulate the sector in line with urban planning, and improve the logistics infrastructure to better support land transport.
