Artificial Intelligence

The initiative "Digitization of Documents and Maps for Land Transport" is a pilot project under the National Program for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Digital Technologies launched by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology in the Sultanate of Oman.

The initiative aims to convert documents and maps related to the land transport sector into digital formats, improving access and facilitating their use in planning, management, and decision-making processes.

Initiative Objectives:

  • Convert documents and maps into digital formats: Includes administrative documents, reports, and geographic maps related to road networks and logistics projects.
  • Improve access to information: Facilitate access to land transport data and information through unified digital platforms.
  • Enhance operational efficiency: Reduce reliance on paper documents, speeding up procedures and reducing costs.
  • Support planning and decision-making: Provide accurate and updated data to support planning, development, and project management in land transport.

Scope of Implementation:

The initiative targets the digitization of documents and maps related to the land transport sector in Oman, including road network documents, logistics projects, and related technical and administrative reports.

Technologies Used:

The initiative relies on artificial intelligence technologies, such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to convert paper documents into searchable digital formats, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to convert paper maps into interactive digital maps.

Importance of the Initiative:

This initiative is a key step toward achieving digital transformation in the land transport sector, improving efficiency, enhancing transparency, and supporting data-driven decision-making.
