Oman and Jordan Hold Joint Maritime Committee Meeting
The Joint Maritime Committee meeting between the Sultanate of Oman and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan commenced today. The Jordanian delegation is headed by Eng. Omar Mustafa Al-Dabbas, Director General of the Jordan Maritime Authority, along with several officials and experts from both sides.
During the visit, the Jordanian delegation met with H.E. Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shammakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Transport. The meeting reviewed areas of mutual cooperation in the maritime sector and discussed ways to strengthen the partnership between the two countries in maritime safety and security, marine environmental protection, ship inspection, and maritime education and training.
The discussions also covered mechanisms for activating the maritime transport agreement signed between the two countries and the memorandum of understanding on the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates of competency. These initiatives aim to develop the maritime sector and enhance future cooperation opportunities between Oman and Jordan.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and joint efforts to advance the maritime transport system and strengthen integration between the relevant entities in both countries. This collaboration aims to achieve mutual interests and contribute to the sustainable development of this vital sector.
The meeting will continue over two days, during which discussions on key issues of common interest will be completed, with the aim of reaching recommendations that enhance maritime cooperation between the two nations.
