Under the Regulatory Sandbox of Transportation and Logistics The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology launcheds an experiment with O Taxi for Parcel and Goods Delivery
As part of the "Regulatory Sandbox of Transport and Logistics” implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) , a six-month experiment for goods delivery services using taxi cars has been launched with “O Taxi”.
The ministry and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) are both involved into this experiment as regulatory bodies for goods delivery in the Sultanate of Oman.
Through this initiative, the ministry seeks to explore the regulatory requirements that would allow the use of taxis in the "last mile" services sector. This aims to improve the quality of services provided and enhance opportunities for the taxi sector to leverage available opportunities in "last mile" services, which would expand employment opportunities for Omanis and contribute to increased revenue from this sector. The experiment also provides an opportunity for integration between government entities supervising "last mile" transport services, thereby contributing to the overall development of the services offered in the sector.
At the end of this experiment, the ministry expects to get real insights about the economicaland regulatory aspects in case of opening this service for taxi companies in Oman.
This is the second experiment conducted by the Regulatory Sandbox of Transport and Logistics. The ministry is enabling the innovation in transportation through opening the doors for more and more experemints with Omani and international startups.
