As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the aviation safety system and improve the preparedness of investigation teams, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, represented by the Transport Safety Office, conducted a specialized tabletop exercise simulating an aviation incident occurring outside the airport perimeter.
The exercise featured a realistic simulation of the response and investigation phases for off-airport aviation accidents. It included the participation of several stakeholders from both the civil and military sectors, with the aim of strengthening role integration and institutional coordination among all entities involved in the civil aviation sector.
The exercise included a review of the approved procedures and plans of the relevant authorities, as well as the identification of mechanisms for evidence documentation and data collection. It also involved the implementation of guidelines issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Participants discussed the potential challenges in executing these procedures in the field and explored ways to enhance coordination and synergy among national entities to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and professionalism in accident management and investigation.
This exercise reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to adopting international best practices and building an integrated national system that enhances aviation safety in the Sultanate of Oman and ensures the readiness of all concerned parties to professionally handle emergencies.
