The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry by His Excellency Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and on behalf of Asyad Ports by His Excellency Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority.

The agreement aims to transform Al Suwaiq Port into a key contributor to commercial connectivity and a supporter of the national economy, while reinforcing Oman’s position as a global logistics hub. It aligns with the Ministry’s strategy to enhance Omani ports, increase import and export operations, attract new shipping lines, and efficiently connect the Sultanate to international markets.

His Excellency Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali stated:

“This agreement is part of the national vision to strengthen infrastructure through public-private partnerships, achieve economic diversification objectives, and enhance Oman’s competitiveness in global markets.”

His Excellency Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi added:

“The agreement includes the construction of a 500-meter-long quay with a depth of 14 meters, designed to accommodate various ship sizes and handle all types of cargo, including bulk (liquid and dry), general cargo, and vehicles. Advanced handling systems will be implemented to improve operational efficiency and expand storage capacity to meet growing demand.”

The agreement also includes the expansion of Al Suwaiq Port’s area to exceed 360,000 square meters and the construction of new deep-water commercial berths. These developments aim to increase the port’s capacity and regional competitiveness, while meeting the growing needs of the local economy—particularly in the food security sector. Al Suwaiq Port is expected to continue serving as a multipurpose commercial port, built to international standards and capable of handling large vessels and facilitating international shipping lines for all types of cargo, including general, liquid, bulk cargo, livestock, and vehicles.
