According to the assessment by the International Civil Aviation Organization, the Sultanate of Oman ranks fourth globally in the aviation accident and incident investigation index.

Based on the audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, the ranking of the Sultanate of Oman in the aviation accident and incident investigation index has risen from 48% to 96% according to the report issued by the organization this month as part of the Global Aviation Safety Oversight Audit Program and the provisions related to safety annexs of the Chicago Convention.

According to this classification, the Sultanate of Oman ranked fourth globally in this index, having previously been in the 113th position, and second in the Middle East and North Africa region, having previously been in the 16th position.

In the index for assisting victims of aircraft accidents and their families, Oman met all the requirements as the first country in the Middle East and North Africa and the second country in the world.

In this context, Captain Majid bin Saif Al-Barahi, Director General of Maritime Affairs and Supervisor of the Transport Safety Office at the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, stated that this achievement is considered an addition to the accomplishments made in the Sultanate of Oman across various sectors and the unlimited systematic support provided by the wise government under the prudent leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, may God protect and preserve him, to various sectors that directly contribute to supporting sustainable development and enhancing the economic visions enabled by Oman Vision 2040.


Noting that the success of transportation safety plans is today considered an important focus for governments, contributing to creating an economic environment that attracts investments and capital on one hand and stimulates economic activity on the other, and one of the most important elements of its success is enhancing and promoting air transportation safety.


Indicating that this national achievement was realized as a result of establishing the Transport Safety Office as a specialized investigative authority for aviation incidents and maritime affairs, directly under the esteemed Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, thru updating the Civil Aviation Law and the Maritime Law, issuing regulations and procedures in accordance with the highest international standards, providing investigation equipment, acquiring the best electronic systems, and enriching the office with the best national and international expertise, as well as signing numerous cooperation agreements with institutions related to the aviation and maritime sectors. All specialists in these institutions worked as a single team to elevate the Sultanate of Oman's ranking in this field to positions befitting its reputation at the regional and international levels.


He indicated that the ministry is working extensively with its partners and with a unified vision to develop strategies that align with all national efforts for the success of aviation safety. To support these strategies, it has adopted policies that reinforce them. Recently, as a culmination of these national efforts, an international conference was organized to assist aviation accident victims and their families, with wide participation from all relevant entities and notable international attendance. The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology aimed thru this organization to affirm its commitment to the international standards and principles applicable in this area, which demonstrates the success of the international evaluation of the Sultanate of Oman and the positive future outlook.


Confirming that the fourth position globally in the air accident investigation index is nothing but a renewed space for national work in the coming period, and that calls upon all of us to sharpen our resolve and double our efforts toward a comprehensive national work for sustainability and to achieve higher levels, God willing, it is a confirmation of the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to aviation safety standards and principles.


Clarifying at the same time that the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, thru its various sectors, has taken upon itself the responsibility of creating national initiatives that contribute to the continuous growth of the local community and enhance the sustainability of developmental efforts according to clear plans that harmonize with all national efforts. Therefore, all policies and plans today are built on statistical visions and methodological indicators that are relied upon, which facilitates the performance of the ministry's sectors smoothly and flexibly in harmony with these policies and in line with these plans, and we are, God willing, continuing on this path.
