Royal Decree No. 90/2020, issued on 18 August 2020, established the National Center for Space, Advanced Technology, and Artificial Intelligence within the organizational structure of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology.

The decree defined several space-related mandates in addition to the Ministry’s other responsibilities, namely:

• Developing the National Space Program for the short, medium, and long term, and overseeing its implementation.
• Supporting programs to develop the uses and applications of space science and technology.
• Working on establishing the infrastructure for developing space systems and satellites.
• Encouraging and monitoring private sector participation in providing services related to the Ministry’s mandates.
