The maritime authority is responsible for overseeing compliance with maritime security requirements for Omani and foreign vessels in Omani territorial waters. This includes conducting inspections and verifications to ensure vessels meet the requirements of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. The maritime authority can issue temporary international ship security certificates valid for up to 180 days, and can renew the full 5-year international ship security certificates if the vessel continues to meet the requirements. The maritime authority can also appoint and oversee port facility security officers and approve port facility security plans. Vessels must have an approved ship security plan onboard, and the maritime authority can conduct unannounced inspections to verify compliance with security measures.
